Our Nutritionist Dr Emily Jevons is fast and female and on the World Stage!

Earlier this month, Dr Emily Jevons, Nutritionist and Physiologist at FAST and Female took part in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Marbella, Spain after qualifying at Ironman 70.3 Bolton in June 2025.

This epic triathlon event consisted of a 1900m sea swim followed by an extremely hilly 90km cycle with a half marathon to finish! The Marbella edition of the event is touted as one of the tougher courses in the 70.3 world championship history due to its elevation and terrain. Over 6,300 athletes from 114 different countries, regions & territories were registered for the event, with 120 of them being professional athletes.

We caught up with Emily when she returned to the UK and asked her what her best bits were from the race:

“The best bit about the day was the atmosphere, the whole weekend was infectious with plenty of support from spectators on the course. For the race itself, the swim was a bit choppier than I expected with large waves, I felt like I should have been on a floatie in a water park wave pool with my arms in the air but unfortunately not, just trying not to swallow too much sea water!

The bike I was very nervous about with the elevation being nothing I’ve experienced before in a race, I knew it was going to be tough going into it so tried to prepare myself mentally for a longer ride than normal and focused on sticking to my fuelling plan and pacing myself to not burn too many matches on the first big climb. The longest climb definitely had the best views when you remembered to actually look up for a moment.”

Then came the run and time to see if the bike elevation had destroyed my run legs… luckily not too badly and I still managed to hold a good pace off the bike, not my best, but not awful either. My favourite part of the course was running down a ramp (you did this 3 times) into a really bright and colourful road filled with spectators and music blaring, it was epic!”

Before Emily ever raced on a bike or put on a pair of running shoes, she was a swimmer. Like so many of the girls in our clinics, Emily started young!

“I started swimming aged 8 at Sandbach Sharks and swam for them until I was 16. I came back to swimming with Liverpool John Moores University swim team before starting as a masters swimmer with Winsford ASC after university.”

Like many of our swimmers and their families, swimming was a huge part of Emily’s life and that of her family's.

“I grew up swimming, both me and my brother swam and for a few years my dad was the head coach!

We asked Emily why she quit swimming at 16. She said

“I wasn’t progressing and didn’t have very good support with managing external pressures around swimming, I also went to an all girls school and I felt like I was missing out on ‘girlie’ things due to prioritising training, if I could go back and change this now I definitely would! I got back into swimming at university more for the social aspect and then started training again properly when I started triathlon. That's when I joined a masters swim club and broke all my PB’s from when I was younger!”

Emily found challenges around being female in swimming and this is what motivates her in her role at FAST and Female:

“I was lucky my club growing up was quite 50/50 male/female split but being at an all girls school I still found there weren't many females around me that swam. I wish I’d had more female role models to look up to in sport! I also felt like there wasn’t much support in actually being a female in sport and the complications we face as our bodies change, this is why I’m so passionate about being part of the fast and female team!

Emily concludes “I had the best time in Marbella, my fuelling strategy went to plan and I finished feeling quite good, but now it’s finally time for an off season break!”

Emily, enjoy your rest and we can’t wait to see you at our next clinic!
