Celebrating 120 Years of Skipton Swimming Club

We were delighted to join Skipton Swimming Club as part of its special 120th birthday celebrations, delivering an inspiring FAST clinic for boys and girls across the club.

The session brought swimmers of different ages and abilities together for a memorable day of learning, encouragement and fun.

Learning in the Pool with Freya

Freya joined the swimmers in the water, demonstrating skills and sharing advice from her own swimming career.

The interactive format gave swimmers the opportunity to watch techniques being demonstrated up close, practise them themselves and ask questions along the way. Having an Olympic swimmer beside them in the pool - coaching, encouraging and sharing her experience made the session particularly special.

The club told us:

“Freya was brilliant with the swimmers. She got in the pool with them, demonstrated skills, shared her experience and made the whole session incredibly interactive and engaging.”

Every swimmer left the pool having learned something new, whether they were taking their first steps in competitive swimming or already competing at national level.

Supporting the Whole Athlete

Alongside the pool coaching, swimmers took part in education sessions covering nutrition and the menstrual cycle.

The nutrition session gave the swimmers practical, age-appropriate guidance about fuelling their bodies, making positive food choices and supporting their training, recovery and wellbeing.

The menstrual-cycle session provided the group with clear and supportive information about how the menstrual cycle may affect training and performance. Introducing this education early helps young athletes understand their bodies and develop healthy habits that can support them throughout their sporting journeys.

Skipton Swimming Club described the sessions as “hugely valuable”, recognising the importance of helping young swimmers develop knowledge and confidence both in and out of the water.

A Celebration to Remember

It was a privilege to be part of such an important milestone in Skipton Swimming Club’s history. A 120th birthday is an extraordinary achievement and reflects generations of commitment to swimming, the local community and the development of young athletes.

The club summed up the experience beautifully:

“The whole experience was engaging, positive and incredibly memorable. It was a real privilege to welcome Freya and her team to the club, and an experience we know will stay with our swimmers for a very long time.”

Thank you to everyone at Skipton Swimming Club for such a warm welcome. We loved celebrating this landmark occasion with you, and helping to inspire the next generation of boys and girls in swimming.
